Ukraine and CEE economies – learning to live with the war and its consequences

The Ukrainian economy has halved in sized since the Russian invasion. We take stock of the how Ukraine is coping with such unprecedented stress. With exports blocked at sea and sowing season at risk, we also highlight which commodities are of systemic importance globally. We’ll pay particular attention to our analysis of the knock-on effects that underpin our downward revisions to CEE output growth.

Evghenia is part of the Global Emerging Markets Research team, where she manages the workflow on our global risk frameworks – Sovereign, currency and banking sector risk tools, and covers Ukraine as a macroeconomist. She has previously covered research on Russia and Central and Eastern Europe at Oxford Economics. Evghenia has over 13 years of research and consulting experience in macroeconomics, country and sovereign risk and international trade. She previously worked on Russia and CIS, as well as global risk products at Roubini Global Economics, and worked for several years in Moldova and Ukraine, at the European Commission Delegation (Moldova) and Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (Ukraine).
