US forecasters’ mailbag – Post-election edition

We received many questions, including during our recent webinar, about the changes to the forecast following the election along with key assumptions.

Here, we answer some of the remaining questions, including:

  1. Trump campaigned on lowering inflation while also touting tariffs, which can create inflation. How might he meet his objective?
  2. What is the likely response by China, the EU, and NAFTA to the US imposing tariffs?
  3. How can the Trump administration increase domestic oil production?
  4. With a tighter labor market because of less immigration, what will the impact on consumer spending be?
  5. What is the forecast for the US dollar in 2025 and 2026?
  6. Is a reduction in the Fed’s independence a likely scenario?
